Practical Applications – Supporting Male Fertility with Proxeed® Plus

When a couple is trying to conceive, the reproductive health of both partners is an important factor. A man's sperm quality can be diminished  by the overproduction of free radicals, but increasing male fertility by neutralizing the free radicals is one of the scientifically proven effects of the ingredients in Proxeed® Plus.

Free radicals

Humans need oxygen for their cellular function. As the human cells use oxygen in their usual functions they produce toxic metabolites. These toxic metabolites, also known as free radicals, can be harmful to the same cells that created them.

Free radicals  are a class of metabolites that are unstable and chemically reactive. One or more of their electrons are unpaired, and this causes them to be highly reactive.

What do free radicals have to do with you?

High levels of free radicals can lead to suboptimal male fertility. In as many as 40% of infertile men, the free radicals levels are high, whereas fertile men have virtually no extra free radicals. The high concentrations of free radicals can have an effect on sperm metabolism, motility, and viability.

Administration of certain vitamins has been scientifically shown to neutralize free radicals. The antioxidant properties of L-carnitine, acetyl-carnitine, vitamin C, coenzyme Q10, and vitamin B12 can help sperm metabolism. Fructose can provide energy to the cells. Zinc is important in semen production. Less fertile men have been shown to have lower seminal levels of zinc than fertile men. Selenium has been associated with improved sperm motility, and folic acid can improve overall sperm health.

High Levels of Oxidative Stress

Studies have shown that high levels of oxidative stress by free radicals may correlate with:

  • Reduction in overall sperm production
  • Loss of sperm motility due to impairment of energy production
  • Impairment of sperm entering the oocyte
  • Impairment of sperm-oocyte fusion
  • Sperm DNA fragmentation
  • Abnormal sperm morphology

Reduce Oxidative Stress to Improve Sperm Function

The antioxidant benefit of Proxeed® Plus helps optimize sperm health when free radical overproduction is likely to occur, thereby increasing male fertility.

Free radical overproduction can be caused by:

  • Stress
  • Smoking, drugs
  • Alcohol
  • Lifestyle
  • Environmental pollution
  • Chronic drug use
  • Suboptimal nutritional status in selected nutrients

Overproduction of free radicals and oxidative stress

(ROS overproduction ) Overproduction of free radicals results in seminal oxidative stress and is associated with suboptimal sperm function including:

  • Poor sperm concentration, motility, and morphology
  • Poor fertilizing capacity
  • Shorter lifespan of sperm

Proxeed® Plus Ingredients have scientifically proven able to neutralize free radicals

Free radical levels and In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)
Research has shown that free radical levels affect the success of in vitro fertilization.

  • Overproduction of free radicals  has been linked to DNA fragmentation³⁴
  • DNA fragmentation is associated with poor outcomes of assisted reproductive techniques (ART)⁴

Proxeed® Plus ingredients have been shown to significantly reduce levels of  free radicals  ( p<0.05).
